In this project, I created a collection of small paper studies over thirty days. Each study explores the concept of play in my creative process. This was very much influenced by the energy I was sensing in the summer of 2021. I felt hearts blooming open.
Within my own creative practice, I was longing to let loose in my work and also share my process, which had served as a spiritual refuge during the long year but had begun to take on a tone of seriousness and rigidity. A gentle and conscious exploration was in order. Things that I experienced and visually interpreted as I was making this work include: child-like wonder, beginner’s mindset, open-mindedness, expansion, creative flow, sparkles of joy, delight, and invigoration.
